Robotic machining for metallic materials

Robotizing metal machining and trimming operations, often performed with tolerances that do not require the use of standard machining processes, offers greater flexibility, simplicity, repeatability and lower investment requirements in comparison with conventional machines – making it particularly appropriate when working on large parts.

GEBE2 offers robotic machining and trimming solutions based on the use of 6-axis polyarticulated robots, motor spindles with or without liquid cooling, radio or wire probes, automatic tool change, standard machining software and mobile robots capable of extending their work envelope.

We also integrate the definition of tool centers, part reference guides and the use of Offline Programming software that programs, simulates and modifies trajectories based on CAD parts and the working environment.

Many machined titanium parts in the aerospace and defence sectors require chamfering or bevelling operations to increase mechanical performance and avoid any breakage from a sharp angle.

Our robotic cells are particularly well suited to these operations. The combination of compliances, profilometers and cutting tools on an electro-spindle enables us to achieve levels of precision, repeatability and speed of execution that meet the specifications for this type of aeronautical titanium parts.

Examples of robotic metal machining applications

Metal machining and chamfering

For large parts with geometric dispersions, the robot has a contact probe or laser probe that identifies the shape of the part. The tool trajectory is automatically recalculated to meet the machining and chamfering tolerance despite the part’s distortions.

Drilling, machining on aluminum alloy

This operation consists in preparing profiles to receive accessories for assembly. The related operations involve drilling, spray-machining assisted by automatic tool change.
