In the plastics engineering sector, raw parts are difficult to bond or overlay.<\/p>\n
The surface state of the parts has to be modified in order to increase the surface energies and improve wettability.<\/p>\n
Robotics systems made widespread use of 2 surface activation technologies:<\/p>\n
The surface of the part is exposed to an oxidizing flame generated by the combustion of a hydrocarbon such as propane or natural gas. The surface tension is obtained by the chemical action of the flame.<\/p>\n
The plasma is produced by an electric discharge in a gas. The plasma jet exits a nozzle under the action of compressed air, and the reactive particles it contains activate the part’s surface area.<\/p>\n
In this sector, GEBE2 produces robotic flaming cells or robotic atmospheric plasma by integrating tried and tested, commercially available, systems.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”45px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

An automotive dashboard typically comprises a polypropylene insert, a flexible skin that provides the grained appearance, and a layer of polyurethane foam sandwiched between the two.<\/p>\n
GEBE2 has produced many robotic cells used to flame the insert required to bond the foam. The robot is fitted with a plasma torch that activates the surface of ABS or PMMA thermoformed parts. The robot treats the sealing area with high precision. This secures the assembly and minimizes the amount of adhesive used.<\/p>\n
