E<strong>ngine acoustics have been optimized using micro-drilled panels<\/strong> that cover a large portion of the interior and exterior surfaces of the cold air stream. Titanium, because of its temperature resistance, <strong>constitutes the exhaust panels of aircraft engines and, to reduce the noise level, some of these panels are also drilled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to our experience with composites, we have applied <strong>our know-how to acoustic drilling applications on metal, by adapting the cutting parameters and associated treatments<\/strong>. However, this different application incorporates all the advantages of our developments applied to composite panels.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row el_class=&#8221;block-half-col&#8221;][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Examples of robotized acoustic drilling &#8211; micro drilling<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;40px&#8221;][vc_row_inner content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>DRILLING LEAP OPB (ONE PIECE BARREL)<\/h3>\n<p>Drill robot used to manufacture OPB for the LEAP engine. However, there is still a need for regular operator intervention.<\/p>\n<p>Drills are changed by a second robot in order to give the drilling cell greater autonomy. This limits operator intervention to once per part during drill loading and replacement.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3>Sanding finishes<\/h3>\n<p>Drilling conditions have to meet several, often conflicting, criteria (delamination, hole entrance quality, cycle time, cutting tool cost, etc&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Compliance with hole entrance quality is a delicate step in thermoplastics. To avoid the use of costly drills, or the need for manual reworking, the robot is fitted with a specific surface sanding end-effector, thus ensuring that burrs are perfectly removes and that the surface is cleaned at the same time. <a href=\"https:\/\/gebe2-et.com\/en\/robotic-finishing\/sanding-robot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn more about robotic sanding.<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;12078&#8243; img_size=&#8221;585&#215;520&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Patching software<\/h2>\n<p>The patching software makes it possible to use a library of drilling effectors that can be combined with a given acoustic pattern to produce patches, to be repeated on the surface of a part.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]This allows, in real time, when creating a patch on the surface:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 0.9em;\">To obtain an indication on the POA (Percentage Open Area), according to the diameter of drill used<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 0.9em;\">To ensure compliance with the key parameters: material damage, angular deviation, etc. Should one of the parameters be not within the defined criteria, the operator is warned and can change their patching strategy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_video link=&#8221;https:\/\/youtu.be\/0nV_1qfvRpo?t=8&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]A patch report is generated at the end of the operation, indicating where the patch most unfavorable for each of the parameters is located.
