Robotic finishing processes for composite and metal parts

The term “finishing” refers to all the operations involved in finishing a part or subassembly at the end of production or between different manufacturing stages. These include trimming, drilling, deburring, grinding, sanding, machining, polishing and surface treatments.

Some operations carried out manually are increasingly automated to reduce the harsh working conditions that can lead to musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) (sanding, polishing, deburring), while other applications are robotised to meet the need for repeatability and control of traceability (deburring, drilling, surface treatments, etc.).

Robotized trimming

Robotized trimming is an operation especially develop for composite and metal parts to eliminate excess material and/or resizing. We implement this process in our robotic cells being based on methods of offset parts and our experience in definition of the cutting parameter acquired by machining.

Robotized deburring

Robotic deburring - GEBE2

Robotized deburring is crucial to control quality and precision of finished parts. It eliminates excess materials that could impair there good working order or appearance.

Our robotic cells are able to reproduce human gestures and sensitivity required for deburring and chamfering operations, while achieving high execution speeds.

Robotized grinding

Robotized grinding allows to get smooth and precise surfaces, by eliminating bumps and preparing parts for the next manufacturing stage.

By integrating grinding process, GEBE2’team develops robotized industrial solutions specific to your needs (definition of tool center, automatic abrasive change, disc deformation analysis, control of abrasive wear) to provide turnkey robotic cells.

Robotized drilling of acoustic panels

Acoustic driling applications

The drilling of acoustic panels is an essential process that reduces noise level of aircraft engines.

GEBE2 integrates this technology in multifunction robotics cells, capable of machining both composite and metal parts.

To optimise drilling, we use a patching software that limits the number of patches required.

Robotized metal and composite sanding

Robot de ponçage métallique - GEBE2

Robotized sanding improves the surface condition of a metal or composite parts. It makes it possible to restore a smooth surface and eliminate geometric defects.

This technique is essential to get a high finishing quality.

GEBE2 integrates this process into robotic cells to reproduce the human gestures and sensitivity thanks to an end-effector developed in-house by our teams.

Robotized machining of composite and metal materials

Robotic machining - composite machining - GEBE2

GEBE2 equips its robotic machining and trimming cells with 6 axis articulated robots, combining the movement of the robot and the workpiece. This configuration makes it possible to handle complex, large-sized parts and to machine soft materials. The simulation and modification of the robot’s paths are optimized using CAD/CAM and PHL programming software.
